Retreats Accessibility
At Carer Escapes, we are dedicated to making our retreats accessible and welcoming for all carers, including those with disabilities, neurodiversity, and ill-health.
We recognise the serious impact that caring can have on individuals, including carer burnout and carer fatigue.
- Carer burnout is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that can occur when carers do not receive adequate support or respite.
- Carer fatigue refers to the persistent tiredness and depletion of energy that results from the ongoing demands of caring for another person.
Our commitment to inclusion means we include venues that are wheelchair accessible and provide pet-friendly rooms for service animals.
All retreat locations are easily accessible by public transport and we provide a pick-up and drop-off service from the nearest train station for all carers attending a retreat.
We continually seek feedback and review our venues, programs, language, and systems to remove barriers and provide an inclusive, supportive, and restorative experience for every carer.
Communication Accessibility
We understand that many carers may not speak English as a first language or may not speak English at all. Some attendees may also feel less confident using technology or navigating travel to the venue.
To ensure everyone can access information and feel comfortable before attending a retreat, we offer alternative ways to communicate-including direct phone calls with our team, either to the carer or their nominated contact (such as a family member who can translate).
If needed, we assist carers in completing feedback forms, including using translation tools such as Google Translate, and can provide a reader-writer to help carers communicate their thoughts and feelings.
Like the organisations we work with, we also value quality feedback and are committed to supporting carers in sharing their retreat experiences and suggestions for improvement.
We proudly design and deliver retreats for specific cultural and language groups (for example, Vietnamese or Arabic-speaking carers) and welcome the addition of interpreters if needed.
